I tried to sign up for Covered California on 6/29 (the day before free federal COBRA coverage ended). While I intended to get a Silver plan, the Covered California site incorrectly calculated my monthly income and referred me to Medi-Cal which I did not want. Before talking to Gus, I had been referred to a licensed agent at another firm who told me I was locked into Medi-Cal and couldn’t do anything about it. I then requested another licensed agent through Covered CA’s website and got Gus. He was able to fix my application so that I was able to get out of Medi-Cal and get the Silver plan I wanted. Gus was quick, professional and effective.

I am recently divorced and found myself needing to shop for health insurance for the first time in my life. In the past we had gotten insurance through her employer. So I got on the CoveredCA website, browsed around for a few minutes and was easily able to navigate my options.

I did have questions about EPO vs. PPO and how to approach estimating my pandemic income for purposes of the subsidy, so I called the number form the site.

I was surprised how easy it was to get through to someone, and how friendly and knowledgeable that person was. In my case the person was Gus, and I would recommend just asking for him up front. Maybe everyone else there is great at what they do as well, who knows, but I was very happy with Gus and the whole process. Now I just need to make the payments every month, oy---if they can figure out a way to get around that, I'll give him 6 stars!
