My wife Linda, worked as an agent for Wally Hutton (State Farm). We moved from Alameda to Magalia in 2001. We got Home insurance with State Farm. Had it ever since. When Wally retired, Linda had retired several months earlier. Keith McBride took over Wally's accounts. I met Keith at Wally's retirement dinner. Keith has been to my house a few times on follow up inspections. My wife of 57 years passed away two years ago, so I'm alone . I go to Keith's office a couple of times a year. I'm always greeted warmly and casual conversation takes place. Keith's office has taken care of my insurance needs. Major storm damage from the blizzard of 23, Keith and his office staff were very helpful in getting the new construction of a breezeway and two out buildings and workshop completed in the prescribed time. Cracked windshield, one call to his office and with Corry's help in calling the proper company, the windshield was replaced. Now I get notified of a 300% increase in insurance rates. It was't Kieth doing's but a State wide increase which all insurance policies increased. I have friends whose insurance was just cancelled. Every insurance company in Calif. had raised rates. Many just dropped coverage.
I went to Keith's office and met with Cory to discuss my options. We went over the entire coverage. Cory and I were joined by Michelle, we continued going over the policy. Cory and Michelle were very helpful explained everything on my coverage. I knew I was covered ,but due to my deceased wife insurance knowledge, I wasn't aware of many things in my policy. Michelle even E-Mailed a copy to my daughter in Colorado who has a good friend who is a insurance broker with numerous offices in So. Calif. She is with a major insurance company who also is experiencing major increases. Some of her clients were just cancelled others switched to the "Calif. unfair Insurance". She advised me to keep the current policy as she stated no other company could match the coverage I had on this policy.
Michelle had talked with me in regards to the Calif unfair plan. It didn't cover much without numerous additions by other companies. I'm not too worried about earthquakes or floods up here. Fire being the main concern for everyone in rural living, and of course personal property in the dwelling.
So I am staying with Keith and his wonderful, knowledgeable office staff. I was notified that State Farm at this time will not cancel me.
I will continue to talk with Keith and his staff, hopefully in a good way and not due to some disaster needing insurance coverage
