I opted for using a health insurance broker so as to have expert advice and support as I navigated the myriad health care options. My initial experience with the broker (Billy) was positive and I felt that I was in good hands. That all changed when January 1st rolled around and I began visiting my providers. They informed me that this policy did not cover them or their services. I called Billy back and he informed me that all he could do is check what is online regarding coverage, but beyond that he couldn't help. Perhaps this is all I can or should expect from a broker, but I was hoping he would work with me to ensure that my various providers and the medical facilities where I get procedures were covered. I have now spent hours on the phone with providers, facilities, and with the insurance company to determine where I can get the weekly blood transfusions that I need. Though I had been assured that my providers (and the facilities they use) were covered by this plan, I was hit with an $8,000 bill this week when I found out that, in fact, they were not covered. I will close by saying that, although Billy and friends are friendly and courteous, they didn't come anywhere near providing me with reliable advice regarding insurance plans. I didn't have this option for this review, but I give them zero stars.

I hate insurance. Its always been such a negative ordeal to buy it and then use it. I never know what I'm paying for until I use it and have to pay much more than expected. Recently I needed to purchase new plans for me and my 2 kids. I called Choice enrollment after office hours and left a message expecting a callback within a day or two. An agent named Thomas called me back a few minutes later and walked me through a variety of options, at a pace that I could handle. During the process, he mediated the bulk of communications between myself and the providers which was such a huge help. He was available to return my calls quickly and didn't grow impatient as I took my time on making a decision. I have a solid understanding of my new plans and how I can use them. I also know what to expect for payment when I have to see a provider.
